How did I miss this entry? (Many of these entries?) I love Laurence Yep with the burning hot (but platonic) passion of a million suns. I have taught Dragonwings about a bazillion times... or at least 15 out of my 21 years of teaching. I have read almost everything he's written. All my students end up wishing that Dragonwings would be made into a movie. I made a Slides show to go with our reading of the novel (and we listen to B. D. Wong's excellent Audible version while reading in class) that gets longer every year, and I bring in my stereoscope to show slides of the 1906 Earthquake. But Child of the Owl is exactly what you say, a great meditation on class, too. Agh, I could write about his Young family chronicles for pages.
