what's on my brain

Thanksgiving weekend was pretty fun. I am beat, though. We spent over 8 hours on the freeway and it was pretty stop and go for most of the 5. The dinner we had at Mark's aunt's place was very, very good, and actually pretty healthy compared to what most other people eat. We had turkey, biscuits, yams, and this rice dish - it had ground meat and nuts that Mark's grandma makes. Delicious.
- A recipe for borani. Via Tastespotting. I think I might try to make it this week. It seems fairly simple and straightforward.
- I did not watch Two Girls, One Cup. (For the curious - really, don't watch it. You thought goatse was bad? You haven't seen anything. Remember, you can't unsee this.) Anyway, I mentioned to Mark that our kids will be so jaded. People are posting reaction videos to the original, and all of them feature disbelief and some people are close to vomiting. Some people even made their parents watch it, which I think is really kind of sick. I mean, there's nowhere to go but down. What will shock our kids when they come of age to search for crap on the Internet? Nothing really. I am sort of dreading what the next shocker will be already.
- The LA Times reviewed the Michelin guide for LA. They didn't like it. I am not really surprised, but I was pleased to see that Empress Pavilion was included in the guide. Who made the Michelin guides such a big deal anyway?
- The Christmas madness begins. I think I am the only person in the world left who actually likes picking out gifts for people, as opposed to just buying gift cards or whatever's on the wishlist. I'll do it, especially for my family, but I don't like it. I'd much rather put in the effort and find something that I think they'll really like, but that they might not be aware of, or might not be willing to purchase themselves. I have barely gotten started, though.
