marvel rising: initiation
I'm a lemming and I signed up for one of those "house party" application things, in which you do some social media posts in hopes of getting some swag (this Marvel party includes costumes) for this new Marvel series called Marvel Rising: Initiation. The first episode is online, and it's actually pretty good. Like, I would watch this regularly with my kids if it was on Netflix or something. Sadly, I think it's only going to be on that Disney streaming service. Features so many super-heroines, including Squirrel Girl, Ms. Marvel, and Spider-Gwen, and that's just the first episode.

jessica jones, season 2
Finished it. Ok, it was a good season. But man, I don't know if I have the stomach to watch another season, if Jessica is going to be put through the emotional wringer in episode after episode.
My biggest issue is that I don't know if the writers realize how it looks when you have three white female prominent characters, and the majority of their antagonists are people of color. It looks really sloppy. And because all those antagonists are relatively minor roles, we barely get a glimpse of who they are, and we're primed to distrust them because of what the audience knows about Jessica.
It's annoying.

jessica jones, season 2
I'm about halfway through it and I'm a little ticked off at the whole theme of "powered people bigotry" when the ones who are being portrayed as bigots are actual people of color. WTF. Also, Jessica, you are actively fucking up people's lives around you, so let's have some accountability, shall we?

OMG all the amazing women who are in this video. + the sci-fi futurism of it all.
By the way, Luke Cage had the best soundtrack of all the Marvel shows. This is probably not a coincidence.

We decided to watch the last episode of Inhumans. It is so, so, so stupid.
1. Medusa NEVER gets her hair back.
2. Black Bolt hardly ever uses his power.
3. There are barely any fight scenes.
4. Maximus has NO SUPERPOWERS, so HOW HARD IS IT TO TAKE HIM DOWN? Like, why doesn't Auran just kill him by the end?
5. Why is Medusa the only one of the Royal Family to know sign language? How useful is sign language if ONLY ONE OTHER person in the entire city of Attilan knows it?
6. 1400 does not seem like a big enough population to be self-sustaining for generations.
7. The set designs are so ugly. I can't believe they did an IMAX premiere.
