(no subject)
Yesterday I had my first-ever full-body massage. It would have been more relaxing if I had not had to drive my stick-shift car through the Caldecott Tunnel to get there. Anyway, I am really sore today. Is that normal?
Daisy Marc Jacobs - The new fragrance. You can sign up for a free sample (which I did) and create a profile to grow your own daisy and enter various things for prizes and stuff (which I did not).
Tyler Brule - NYObserver profile of the guy who launched Wallpaper* and Monocle. - I've always thought Wallpaper* was pretty but contentless and expensive. However, Monocle is pretty damn awesome - it's full of in-depth features on issues all around the world (with obligatory fashion spreads), but I still can't make myself justify spending $10 on it every month, even though the design and writing make . According to their front page - they are looking for a "chief sub editor" in their London headquarters.
Last night we started watching the Bob Saget: That Ain't Right HBO Special. Okay, maybe Mark and I have twisted senses of humor, but he's hilarious, and in a way that is so, so wrong. We didn't get all the way through it, but what we did see was evidence that Bob Saget has absolutely no idea what's going to come out of his mouth next. I used to watch Full House all the time when I was a kid, and America's Funniest Home Videos, too, and seeing Danny Tanner go off about all the...I can't even go into what he's talking about most of the time; let's just say it was an experience you will never forget. A lot of HBO viewers didn't like it, though. Maybe we are easily pleased.
White Noise: Why do so few people of color work in publishing? I just finished reading this article (found via Tayari Jones' blog) and I was sort of struck by it. One of the points made is that the low salaries don't really attract people of color. (Instead, white women who have trust funds or rich husbands who love books are more likely to get jobs in publishing and hire their friends.) That's not the only reason, but that's one of the biggest reasons I quit looking for work in the publishing industry.
Oakland Crimespotting Alerts are totally creeping me out.
