So in doing stuff for my wedding, I keep coming across this newly made up and vomit-inducing word: "nearly-wed".

It's called "engaged", people.

Sharon and I avoided the term "engaged" but we didn't make up dumb new words. She was my "girlfriend who I'm marrying in June" :)

We felt it didn't really capture what was going on for us. There wasn't a proposal, a ring, a big wedding or anything like that. We just decided to get married and what date to do it one morning. That didn't seem like "engagement". Also, it was only a couple of months between the decision and the day.

The word we really avoided was fiance.
