1. It might be too early but I really like John Chiang for CA governor. He just posted what he plans to do as governor about sexual assault. Have not seen either Newsom or Villairagosa say anything about it.
2. The NYT did a fawning profile on Ben Shapiro, and apparently he has been anointed the "intellectual conservative". Having been in college at the same time as him back when he was slut-shaming his friends for daring to enjoy their college years, I almost threw up. Shapiro is a hateful idiot's idea of a smart person; the only reason people hang onto him is that he sounds like he can put a logical sentence together. Everything falls apart from closer reading, and you feel like you lost brain cells trying to figure out if he's serious or just an idiot.
3. Good profile of the Pod Save America people. To be honest, I don't actually like the main podcast with the main guys very much. I think mainly because it moves too fast. By the time I get around to listening, ten other shoes have dropped. I did like listening to the first episode of Majority 54 with Jason Kander, and I liked With Friends Like These with Ana Marie Cox. The episode she did with Rebecca Traister on Bill Clinton was really interesting.
4. I tried to get into Chapo Trap House, but I just didn't really like it. Something about the tone, maybe. I think I might try again.
5. Interesting article on Republican women leaving the GOP. “This is one of the main differences between the left and the right: We don’t see every issue as being a ‘man’s issue,’ or a ‘woman’s issue.’ It’s not a men-against-women, us-against- them mentality,” said Sue Zoldak, the head of communications for RightNOW Women PAC. “I don’t understand the idea that something is a ‘women’s issue.’ I don’t comprehend that as a statement.”
6. So I saw Bill Kristol tweeting something about Trumpism bringing out his inner socialist/liberal. I scrolled down and there was further admonishment not to argue with your relatives or something because "politics doesn't really matter". Just. Who the fuck are these people?
