goddamn I did not really dream I would see the day the entire US would actually stand up for Palestine. unabashedly. And this proud USC dad

anyway, a list of campus bail funds collected here

and I agree it feels like we're speed-running 9/11 all over again.

I know! It's made me so happy all day. My older niece (graduated last year from Cal) texted me at 6:30 AM to send me a link from Twitter about an encampment at my own college, Northwestern University, which is still going strong 14 hours later, despite being threatened with mass arrests (so far, only by the campus police, so what does that even mean?) but also with suspension and possibly expulsion (which was never a threat leveled at my undergraduate self). I found the student newspaper's live blog of the protest and followed it all day -- much better than concentrating on Progress Reports.

Thirty-nine years ago almost to the day, I got arrested for a sit-in at the NU administration offices, and the next week a shanty-town that lasted for weeks had been built on the admin plaza. We were arrested (100 of us, a nice round number) by Evanston police, plastic zip ties and all. Some organizer tonight at the rally said "Don't worry, they can't possibly arrest all of us" (there are about 250 to 300). Well... yes they can, if they turn it over to the Evanston police. They'll have to process them somewhere big, like the basement of the Fire Station (where they processed us almost 40 years ago) or in some sporting area (like the tennis courts in Richmond where we sweltered in zip ties for hours, in 2003).

Anyway, I am so glad to see this.
