Chimp Crazy is a 4 part documentary about people who own chimps, and this one centers mostly around Tonia Haddix, who is fighting with PETA over ownership of her chimp, Tonka. The documentary is from the same guy who made Tiger King, Eric Goode.

Here's a profile of Eric Goode - he appears to be really rich, and also owns a turtle conservancy, and is just really fascinated with people who own animals. Because of Eric Goode's fame from the Tiger King series, he relied on the use of a "proxy" director to gain Haddix's trust and get permission to film.

Going to do spoilers for this one, as it's worth watching in its entirety:

Things to know:
1. Tonia Haddix is just straight up crazy and delusional. And a bad liar. And just not the brightest bulb.
2. Tonka, the main chimp, is now safe and healthy in a chimp sanctuary
3. The show mostly focuses on women who own chimps, and there seems to be an intense bond that they feel with their chimps, but as the chimps age into sexual maturity, this can have dire consequences for everyone involved.
4. There is so much kissing on the lips with the chimps - I find it revolting.
5. I feel like the documentary should have delved more into the business of the chimp/exotic animal trade. On Reddit, they speculate that the reason Haddix was so attached to Tonka was actually because she wanted him to breed with female chimps owned by other people.
6. These people are all so shady and sick. Just feels like they love their chimps more than their human children because they have control over their lives and are projecting whatever emotions they think they have onto the chimps.
7. Did not expect to side with PETA so hard.
8. Eric Goode really knows how to frame a scene.

Overall this was a really interesting look into a world that I didn't know all that much about. I think Eric Goode makes very compelling documentaries, but I don't know if they're completely all that ethical.
